Virginia Golf Club COVID-19 update GUI/ILGU Protocola

Virginia Golf Club is preparing for the resumption of golf from Monday 18th May. We have signed up to the GUI/ILGU protocols and respectfully ask all our members to cooperate in their implementation.

Admission to the Golf Course will be strictly limited to paid-up-members and tee-times will be strictly controlled, to allow equal and fair access to all. Virginia Golf Club will operate a timesheet with groups of 3 players per time-slot. Full details of the system to be implemented will follow shortly.

The following are the guidelines for Phase 1 of the reintroduction

Dear Members,

We are all delighted that golf is one of the first sports to be allowed to resume with the easing of the Government restrictions. It will be great to return to playing. This is a privilege, and we must all ensure that we abide by the protocol published by the ILGU/GUI https://www.golfnet.ie/news/golfnet/4661/unions-publish-protocol-for-golfs-safe-return

Virginia Golf Club will reopen on 18th May for paid up members only. A time sheet will operate and golf will have to be pre-booked via text or phone. The full details of this will issue later in the week.

Physical distancing must be observed in all areas of the club at all times.

This new way of playing golf may be strange at first and we would ask people to have patience. Inevitably there will be teething trouble with the booking system, but we will learn as we go along.

We will continue to monitor and implement GUI/ILGU and public health advice . We intend to move cautiously at the start, so that we ensure golf can be played safely and that our members continue to enjoy the benefits of Virginia Golf Club.

Wishing you all good health and good golf for the year ahead.

Captains:

Declan and Veronica

Virginia Golf Club COVID-19 update

We are living in extraordinary times witnessing something we never thought possible and something we hope will pass soon. The efforts of the general population to limit the spread of the virus have been exemplary and we can see the results of the measures being taken. Virginia Golf Club, like every other Golf Club, has had to close our doors temporarily but, rest assured, when the green light is lit the Golf Club will be in the best condition it ever has been in, thanks to the ongoing work of our Greenkeepers, Brian and Peter. The Capital Grants programme is proceeding with Virginia Golf Club being the grateful recipient of a 2020 grant, the monies being invested in new equipment for the upkeep of the Golf Course. Our remodeling of three tee-boxes is complete with them being ready for play very soon.

Rest assured, Virginia Golf Club, when reopened, will be, once again, the Club we all love and breath. We will have the Captains’ Drive-in, we will have the Club Classic and we will have our “Majors” in 2020. It may be difficult but, together, we will keep our Club going, onwards and upwards. A reminder that 2020 is the 75th anniversary of our founding and it’s a milestone that will, also, be commemorated.

Here are some photographs of the Golf Course, looking well in the April sunshine, together with some images of the new tee-boxes being readied for action.

Mens Section - Covid-19 Update

In the light of the evolving situation, we will continue with casual golf this weekend.

This means that we will have to figure out how to complete the competition but right now, the situation is too fluid to make concrete plans.

We will issue further information regarding Social Distancing and best practices for safety during your game. If anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Arthur

Coronavirus update

As per text message sent to all members yesterday, Thursday 12th March, please be advised

In light of developing circumstances it has been decided that formal competitive golf is suspended for this weekend but casual golf is Ok. This will be reviewed next weekend. In the interest of personal safety try to observe social distancing*!

For advice on Social Distancing and other preventative measures to be taken during this crisis, please refer to https://www2.hse.ie/coronavirus/ or any relevant Government website

*Social Distancing is a new term for many people,

It is a term applied to certain non-pharmaceutical infection control actions taken by public health officials to stop or slow down the spread of a highly contagious disease. The objective of social distancing is to reduce the probability of contact between persons carrying an infection, and others who are not infected, so as to minimize disease transmission, morbidity and ultimately, mortality.[1][2]

Social distancing is most effective when the infection can be transmitted via droplet contact (coughing or sneezing); direct physical contact, including sexual contact; indirect physical contact (e.g. by touching a contaminated surface such as a fomite); or airborne transmission (if the microorganism can survive in the air for long periods)
